Extra thin with serrated cut edges.
Highly absorbent material holds more oil / solvent for improved coverage.
If the selected patch is too large then cleaning the barrel will be difficult and the patch can jam, too small and full contact may not be made, leaving an imperfect clean.
Larger patches can be cut smaller.
